Buns Of War

The Bunshop would like to welcome you to Buns of War, a themed MW (FoW) competition, on 8th & 9th June 2019 at Battlefield Hobbies, 17 Brunel Close, Daventry, NN11 8RB, run by Paul and Graham.

100 points Mid War Flames of War (version 4).

There will be 5 games, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday

With the Sturm events no longer being run, we feel there is a gap in the FoW calendar for an event which is not simply an open competition but has a bit more of a twist to it. As this is our first attempt, we are trying to keep as many options open as possible, so we are not focusing on a specific front this time, all forces will be available.

This event will be a themed event, all games will be red vs blue (so we will need to ensure a balance of axis and allied forces), with missions and stances decided by the organizers, based on the overall score between axis and allies (e.g. we might decide that the axis armies are launching a counterattack, so all axis will be attacking and the mission counterattack), so expect to have to attack and defend (we will ensure one side is not defending or attacking all the time).

What Lists are Legal

The MW Force diagrams on the BF website are not legal for this competition, your force must come from the lists as described by the books and/or forces of war, as listed below (from what I can see this only effects the Germans and the Italians).

Command cards should be treated as part of the book they are attached to and have the same restrictions (so if you cannot have Ghost Panzers support, you cannot have Ghost Panzers command cards either).

Your force can only use one formation support diagram and this must be from one of your core companies (e.g. if you were using an Iron Cross Grenadier company and an Africa Korps Armoured car company you could take support from either IC or AK, but not both, so could not have Nebs and Diana’s for example).

Fighting First: Can take allies from Armoured Fist

Armoured Fist: Can take allies from Fighting First

Enemy at the Gates: Can be taken with Red Banner

Red Banner: Can be taken with Enemy at the Gates

Avanti: Can take German allies from Africa Korps and Iron Cross, but NOT Ghost Panzers.

Afrika Korps: Can take formations and units from Iron Cross, but not Ghost Panzers. Can take allies from Avanti.

Iron Cross: Can be used either with Africa Korps and/or Avanti OR Ghost Panzers but not both.

Ghost Panzers: Can be used with Iron Cross, but NOT Africa Korps or Avanti.

Iconic Tank Cards & Community Cards

Especially for Buns of War we have designed iconic tank command cards. We have been seeing very few of some of the most iconic, and historically numerous tanks being used in FoW tournaments. Shermans, T-34’s and long barreled Panzer IV’s all being rarely seen in competition lists, despite being among the most common tanks for the period. Each player will be able to use one iconic tank card, which will allow you to replace one unit of these iconic tanks with a specified unit at a reduced price. You can only take one Iconic tank unit card per force, and the unit you take must exactly match the unit described on the card (so you cannot use the British Iconic Sherman card on a Sherman unit with 2 Shermans and a Grant, it must be 3 Shermans). The Iconic tank unit replaces the unit specified, so it must be a unit you can select in your force normally. The iconic tank cards list the points cost of the unit, they also show the difference in cost compared to if you picked the unit as pointed in the lists. If you select your army on Forces of War, select the unit as defined by the card and make a note of the points reduction for the unit. For the British Sherman and Hero T-34, the iconic tank card allows you to pick two units of iconic tanks, this is because they only come in units of 3 tanks.

We will try to put the PDF for the iconic tank cards on Facebook and the BF forum, but if you are unable to find a copy (or would prefer a PDF sent to you), please contact email one of us and we will sent you a copy.

The community card units that are on the BF website will be allowed, though we retain the right to reconsider if we feel something breaches the spirit of the event. The units should be picked as stated on their cards with the following amendments:
– Panzerjager I Tank Hunter Platoon: The option for picking a Panzer I unit as a support for each Diana tank hunter platoon is removed (there were so few Diana’s produced we did not feel this should be linked to them). You can also field this unit as part of an Iron Cross force (but not Ghost Panzers), with the same selection rules
– M3 75mm GMC: This can be picked as a formation support unit.

The community cards can be found at:

Deep Reserves

The following amendment to deep reserves will be used: In missions that you are affected by deep reserves, you may field either one tank unit with front armour 3 or one unit of aircraft on table at the start of the game. Any other units with front armour 3 and aircraft must be put into reserve before any other units.
